In the Beginning, Created in the Image of God

We are moved by the beauty of a white lily, the perfume of a crimson rose, the glow of a colorful sunset, a majestic thousand year old sequoia tree or the great expanse of the universe with millions of stars. These are all the creations of God.

Everything created in six days was to show the universe the amazing and awesome love of God!

We were created to glorify our heavenly Father through the power of the Holy Spirit. God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him, must worship Him in spirit and in truth. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, and self-control. If we live in the Spirit, let us walk in the Spirit. Yes, God created the lily, rose, sunset, sequoia tree, and millions of stars. But only mankind, only you and I were created in His image, in His likeness, able to love God our father and all our sisters and our brothers. When we are living in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit, we declare to the universe, we are the children of God and thereby glorify our Father.

You and I were created in the image of God. We are to remain on the mark! We should not fall short of the glory of God! We should not practice to commit sin! How is this possible? God said, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh. It is through the Holy Spirit connecting us to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. When we love God, our Creator, and all of His children, we show the world and the universe the image of our Father, by the life we live.

While leading out in a Sabbath School lesson study, I stated, we all have the Spirit of God dwelling in each of us. Even a new born baby comes into this world with the Spirit of God. The Pastor of the church, listening on the class discussion, asked where I heard or learned about this teaching. He was adamant and insisted, I should not be teaching this to the members of the church. I was ordained as an Elder in December 1987 and held various positions as Head Elder, Sabbath School teacher, and member of the Church Board. As with the other Elders of the church, I also was scheduled to deliver the message or sermon usually once every 3-4 months. This was the first time, I had heard a pastor of this denomination state, “the church believes all men are created with a depraved mind and cannot do anything good, but evil. A baby comes into this world, already with sin.”

Led by the Spirit of God, in 2006, I started searching scripture, the word of God, for a deeper understanding of when and how the Holy Spirit entered into every human being coming into this world. The Holy Spirit, kept taking me time and time and many, many, more times, usually, early in the mornings, to Genesis, the study of Creation, to understand how the Earth and Adam were created.

Creation of the physical earth

Genesis 1:1-5; In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good:

and God divided the light from darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. Was the earth created alive with the Spirit of God?

Creation of the physical man

Genesis 2:7-9; And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Here we find the physical man, the flesh man, formed from the dust of the ground is created as the earth was created without form and void, in darkness. This man of dust was not able to move or understand anything but then God breathed into him the breath of life. Did Adam gasp when he took his very first breath, in the very same manner a new born baby struggles, gasps and cries with their very first breath, when they enter into this world? Was mankind created alive with the Spirit of God?

Both the Earth and Adam, in and of itself, both were without form and void, without light. God through the Holy Spirit gave me an understanding about the importance of the Light. This Light was completely different from the physical light of the sun, moon and stars. What was this Light? How important is this Light? Could it be the difference between life and death?

Genesis 2:15-17; And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

How could Adam be able to distinguish between good and evil if he was created with a mind of flesh, of dust the same as the earth, without form and void, in darkness? Like the Earth, Adam needed the Spirit of God, hovering, moving within him.

Genesis 1:26-28; And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

John 1:1-5; In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:9; That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Isaiah 49:6; And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the (ends)end of the earth.

Isaiah 42:6, 7; I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant (to) of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Isaiah 51:4; Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall (go forth) proceed from me, and I will make my (justice) judgment to rest for a light of the people.

Luke 2:32; A light to (bring revelation to) lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Acts 10:45; And (The Jews) they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 13:47; For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

Acts 28:28; Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

Galatians 3:14-18; That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles (Lit. in Christ Jesus) through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannual, that it should make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Genesis 12:3, 7; And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

1 Corinthians 12:12; For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or (Lit. Greeks) Gentiles, whether we be (slaves) bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Genesis 2:18; And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him an help meet for him.

Genesis 2:19-20; And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

Imagine, God formed man already a full grown adult with intelligence capable of naming every beast of the field and every fowl of the air. Adam named whatever cattle, beast or fowl God brought to him and that was the name it would be.

Genesis 2:21-25; And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

God did not form Eve as He formed Adam. Instead, God forms Eve from a part of Adam, his rib. Was this the first cloning of mankind? Adam again, with his intelligence, wisdom and understanding names what God has made, Woman. She was made of Adam’s bone and flesh. Scripture tells us both Adam and the Woman were naked, without any covering over their bodies, were not ashamed as man and wife.

Man was formed from the ground, dust and God breathed into him the breath of life and man became a physical living soul. God also breathed into man with his breath the Holy Spirit. From the word of God we find man created in the image of God, righteous and holy. Man could not be righteous and holy without the Spirit of God dwelling within him. God created man as an adult, with knowledge, wisdom and understanding regarding the physical and spiritual laws.

God commanded Adam to not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In the day he ate of this tree he would surely die.

We also find God creating a helper, Woman, so Adam would not be alone. This woman was not created in the same manner as Adam was but was created from one of his ribs and they, man and woman became one flesh.

Adam and Eve were blessed by God to be fruitful, and multiply. Many men and women were to be created in the image of God by the seed of Adam and the breath of God. God’s plan was for many more men and women to be created in His image, holy and righteous. This was to go on forever and ever.

Because of Adam’s sin all mankind are condemned to suffer in the flesh.

Genesis 3:19; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Scripture tells us man was created a physical being when God breathe into him the breath of life.  We see this breath demonstrated in every baby coming into this world, gasping for air as though without it they would die. After the first breath, the baby begins to breathe as naturally as the heart beats. The unborn baby is connected in the mother’s womb with a support system which provides the warmth, fluid and food needed to survive in the “flesh” physically.

No one has ever been given a choice of being born physically into this world. Everyone who comes into this world was reproduced, propagated by a man and a woman and with the breath of God?

What God created and said, was very good; we should not call evil.

Creation with Spirit of God

John 3:1-3; There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nic-o-de’-mus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:4-8; Nic-o-de’-mus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

John 3:9-13; Ni-co-de’-mus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

When God breathed into the nostril of Adam the breath of life, did Adam become both physically and spiritually alive?

Did God remove His breath or the Holy Spirit from dwelling within Adam? We find Adam did not die physically the day he sinned. God removed Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden to prevent them from eating of the tree of life and from living forever, physically, in the flesh. Because Adam and Eve could no longer eat the fruit from the tree of life, they started to die physically, in the flesh, and eventually turn to dust.

Job 34:14-15; If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

Psalms 104:28-31; (What) That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his work.

This same phenomenon happened spiritually when Adam sinned. God removed His Spirit from Adam and Eve, to prevent them from eating of the “spiritual” tree of life and live forever. We find from that day forward, they were separated from eating spiritually of God. Did Adam and Eve die spiritually or did they start to die spiritually? Was the Spirit of God removed from within Adam and Eve but still dwelt among them?

Can one live in darkness and in light at the very same moment? Can light co-exist with darkness?

We find what happens when one sins. Separated from God, no longer righteous and holy, fall short of the glory of God. From Adam until the cross every human being coming into this world was in this condition, separated from the indwelling of God’s Spirit, no longer righteous and holy did commit sin!

Because of Adam’s sin all mankind are condemned spiritually without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, spiritually dead!

Adam was not the same as first created and would continue to sin with only the flesh nature, physically, because he was spiritually dead without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

If God should remove His Spirit from dwelling within man, he would die spiritually. Therefore, in order for man to be made alive spiritually, man must be born again as he was first created by God, in the image of God, righteous and holy with the Holy Spirit dwelling within.

How could mankind once again be created in the image of God, righteous and holy? This could only happen after Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected.

John 3:14-18; And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:19-21; And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Jesus tells  Ni-co-de’-mus, Except a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus reemphasizes to Ni-co-de’-mus, Except a man be born of the water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Here we find how important it is for man to have eternal life, one must be born of God, with His Holy Spirit!

Like Ni-co-de’-mus, we want to know how the Holy Spirit enters into mankind.

John 20:19-22; Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Physically, the wind can be heard and felt but not seen with our eyes or grasped within our hands. (6)

The wind bloweth where it (wishes) listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one (purpose or mind) accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them (divided) cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:5-13; And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this (sound occurred) was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were (confused) confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Gal-i-lae’-ans?  And how hear we every man in our own (language) tongue, wherein we were born? Par’-thi-ans, and Medes, and E’-lam-ites, and the dwellers in Mes-o-po-ta’-mi-a, and in Ju-dae’-a, and Cap-pa-do’-ci-a, in Pon’-tus, and Asia. Phryg’-i-a, and Pam-phyl’-I-a, in Egypt, and in the parts of Lib’-y-a about Cy-re’-ne, and (visitors) strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and A-ra’-bi-ans, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were (perplexed) in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These man are full of new wine.

How does one get filled with the Holy Ghost?

Acts 2: 14-18; But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Ju-dae’-a, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Jo’-el;

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Acts 2:21-24; And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man (attested by) approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by (lawless) wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having (destroyed) loosed the (Lit. birth pangs) pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be (held by) holden of it.

Acts 1:2-8; Until the day in which he (Ascended into heaven) was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

To whom also he (presented) shewed himself alive after his (suffering) passion by many (unmistakable) infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own (authority) power. But ye shall receive power, after (when) that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Ju-dae’-a, and in Sa-ma’-ri-a, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

In the word of God we understand on the day of Pentecost God poured out His Spirit – the Holy Spirit upon all flesh. Jesus a few days before demonstrated to His disciples that He would breathe upon all men His Spirit – the Holy Spirit. Because of what Jesus accomplished at the Cross and Resurrection, God not only breathes the physical life but also the spiritual life into all mankind coming into this world.

The Holy Spirit is manifested in the disciples and also in those a few days before cried “Crucify Him. As prophesied in Joel 2:28, God poured out His Spirit upon all flesh. Those who were alive physically were made spiritually alive with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.”

It is impossible for mankind to please God by living in the physical “flesh” nature, void and in darkness. Only in the “spiritual” in the Spirit of God, “Born Again of God” can mankind remain on the mark, connected to Jesus Christ, in the Light, will not sin!
