For today’s Sunday School Bible Study series, we continue our journey through Micah 6:8 by focusing on the third key phrase: ‘He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.’ This week, we’ll explore what it means to walk humbly with God and how living with humility shapes our relationship with Him and others.
In Micah 6:8, we are given a beautiful and profound call to action: “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
What Does It Mean to Walk Humbly?
Walking humbly with God is about acknowledging that we are completely dependent on Him for everything we have and everything we are. It’s about surrendering our pride, our control, and our will to His greater purpose. Humility isn’t just an attitude; it’s a way of life that reflects a deep trust in God’s sovereignty.

Jesus Himself is the ultimate example of humility. Even though He was God, He humbled Himself to the point of washing His disciples’ feet and laying down His life for humanity. To walk humbly means to follow His example—placing others before ourselves and choosing to submit to God’s will, even when it’s hard.
Why Walking Humbly Matters
Humility is a vital characteristic in our faith journey because it allows us to be led by God, rather than relying on our own wisdom. When we humble ourselves, we open the door to spiritual growth, deeper intimacy with God, and a more peaceful heart.
Walking humbly with God means we trust Him to lead us, even when the path is uncertain. It means we recognize that we cannot control everything, but we know the One who does. This humble posture allows us to rest in God’s plan, knowing that He is working for our good.
How Can We Walk Humbly with God?
Here are a few ways you can cultivate humility in your daily life:
- Seek God’s Will Daily: Spend time in prayer asking for God’s guidance, and be willing to surrender your own plans for His perfect will.
- Serve Others: Look for opportunities to serve without seeking recognition. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or volunteering at church, serving is a tangible way to practice humility.
- Stay Teachable: Be open to correction, instruction, and growth. Humility means being willing to learn and change when necessary.
- Gratitude: Humility is fostered by a heart of gratitude. Regularly thank God for His blessings and remember that everything we have comes from Him.

The Benefits of Humility
Walking humbly with God brings peace, joy, and spiritual growth. As we let go of our pride and allow God to lead, we begin to experience a deeper relationship with Him. We become more aware of His presence, more reliant on His strength, and more at peace with His plan for our lives.
A Challenge for the Week
This week, take time to reflect on areas of your life where you can practice humility. How can you submit more fully to God’s will? How can you serve others without seeking recognition? As you walk humbly with God, remember that He is walking with you, guiding your steps with love and grace.
